Global Tree Assessment

GlobalTreeSearch

Posted on 6 December 2017

Without a list of the world's tree species the size of the Global Tree Assessment task was unknown. In 2017, the first comprehensive list of tree species and their country distributions was launched, GlobalTreeSearch.

BGCI has been working for over two years, consulting over 500 published sources and liaising with experts all over the world to find the number of tree species: 60,065.

GlobalTreeSearch will be used as the backbone for the Global Tree Assessment project. The database is not static and will be updated when new information is made available.
